Sense To Solve - Strategic Play

Build Results

Itha Taljaard is a certified facilitator of LEGO® STRATEGIC PLAY® method and materials, with over ten years’ experience. On this basis, Sense to Solve offers Participatory Strategic Development Workshop using the LEGO® STRATEGIC PLAY® materials and methodology.

The LEGO® STRATEGIC PLAY® methodology is an innovative, experimental process designed to enhance innovation and performance.

This hands-on, minds-on learning produces a deeper, more meaningful understanding of the world and its possibilities. The methodology deepens the reflection process and supports an effective dialogue – for everyone in the organisation.

Building landscape models with LEGO® bricks, which includes storytelling and playing out possible scenarios, helps to stimulate creativity, deepen understandings, solve problems and recognise opportunities.

The LEGO® STRATEGIC PLAY® method can be used as a standalone process. For example, a facilitated meeting or workshop process designed to solve a particular problem, to stimulate creativity or improve communication.

Sense to Solve also integrates LEGO® STRATEGIC PLAY® materials and methodologies into other training processes, such as, Design Thinking, Creative Intellect, FutureSensing and so on.

In all instances, participants are led through a series of probing questions that encourage a deep dive into the subject.

Participants build 3D LEGO® models, which serve as a basis for group discussion, knowledge sharing, problem solving and decision making.

The process also creates a social bond between groups who “play” together.

At Sense to Solve we encourage participants to use LEGO® STRATEGIC PLAY® to “give your brain a hand”. This is because the hands (more than any other part of the body) have the most connections to the brain. With more connections and different connections, using your hands can help to bypass the rational brain and reach knowledge centres that are not as readily accessible.

Karen Lynch uses the wonderful metaphor, “The hands act like a search engine for the brain.” An idea that is further explored in the article Thinking with your hands: cognitive weakness or the key to problem-solving?

The LEGO® STRATEGIC PLAY® method improves group problem solving, encourages people to learn by doing and utilises visual, auditory and kinesthetic skills. Participants are required to listen and the process provides all participants with a voice regardless of culture, skill-set or position.

Via the use of LEGO® STRATEGIC PLAY® materials and methodology, Sense to Solve offers you the platform to explore relationships and connections between people and their world, observe the dynamics both internal and external, explore various hypothetical scenarios, and gain awareness of possible future states and their impact on people and business.
